SomnoGuard SPX oral appliance
What is SomnoGuard® SPX?
SomnoGuard® SPX is a two-part, prefabricated oral appliance (so-called mandibular advancement device) for the treatment of snoring and mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), which is associated with breathing stops at night. It is our latest development in the field of prefabricated SomnoGuard® oral appliances and impresses above all with its delicate design. Two connectors of the same length connect the upper and lower jaw trays to each other laterally.- Thermoplastic material with shape memory effect (fitting repeatable)
- High wearing comfort thanks to the delicate design, high acceptance
- Adjustable tray width allows adjustment to any jaw size
- Comfortable adjustment with practical tray holder
- Feed adjustment accurate to the millimeter; choice between 2 connector variants (with and without screw)
- Mouth breathing and slight mouth opening possible
- Also suitable for protruding lower jaws
- Made in Germany: developed and manufactured in Germany
How does SomnoGuard® SPX work?
SomnoGuard® SPX is worn in the mouth at night. With the help of two side connectors, the two-part device holds the lower jaw with the tongue slightly forward, thus opening the upper airways. As a result, the vibration and fluttering of the soft tissue (soft palate & uvula) and thus the typical snoring noise can be reduced or prevented. How is SomnoGuard® SPX fitted?
The two jaw trays each consist of a stable and narrow outer shell and a preformed thermoplastic material. After heating the trays in a hot water bath, the thermoplastic material softens and can then be adapted to the two rows of teeth - like a dental impression. After subsequent cooling in cold water, the material hardens again and then retains the new shape with individual tooth impressions. With the help of a special holder, the adjustment process of the SomnoGuard® SPX is particularly convenient. The jaw trays are "clicked" into the holder one after the other and held with it in the water bath or placed in the mouth. A slot mechanism in the middle of the front rail allows the tray width to be changed. By gently squeezing or pulling the trays apart, they can be adjusted to the respective jaw size after heating in a water bath. Thanks to the shape memory effect, the thermoplastic material approaches its original shape when heated again. In this way, the adjustment of the jaw trays can be repeated if necessary (e.g. if the fit is not optimal). The two-part appliance mainly encloses the less sensitive rear teeth and the front teeth only from the front side, so that less pressure is exerted on the bite.
The fitting only takes about 20 minutes:
(Please also note the detailed instructions for use.)- Heat the oral trays in hot water for about 60 seconds.
- Bite into the soft material. It forms according to the teeth.
- Cool the trays in cold water so that the material hardens again.
- Adjust the advancement of the lower jaw with the side connectors.
How is the advancement of the lower jaw adjusted?
The upper and lower jaw trays are connected to each other by lateral connectors and the lower jaw advancement is adjusted with millimeter precision. The pack includes two screw connectors as well as a connector set (connector without screws). It is advisable to start the therapy with the screw connectors and - once the optimal advance has been determined - to use the connectors from the set for long-term use. SomnoGuard® SPX allows mouth breathing and easy mouth opening.Depending on the extent of the set lower jaw advancement, the upper airways are more open. Snoring and nocturnal breathing pauses as a result of obstructive sleep apnea can be reduced in this way.
For an optimal therapeutic result, it is recommended that SomnoGuard® SPX is fitted and adjusted by a doctor (e.g. ENT doctor, doctor in a sleep laboratory, dentist) or their specialist staff.
Who is SomnoGuard® SPX suitable for?
SomnoGuard® SPX is suitable for any jaw size, since the width of the jaw trays can be changed during the fitting. The oral appliance is also suitable for patients with a protruding lower jaw (retrognathia). If there is any uncertainty in the assessment of the condition of the teeth or if there are pronounced tooth or bite misalignments, a dentist should be consulted before the start of treatment. You should also clarify with your dentist in advance whether the very gracefully built SomnoGuard® SPX is suitable for you if you suffer from grinding or strong jaw movements. A "custom-made" oral appliance, such as the SomnoGuard® SP Pro, individually manufactured in the dental laboratory may then be more suitable for you.Material:
The thermoplastic material is medically safe and biocompatible. It contains no allergens, no latex, no silicone and no plasticizers (such as BPA).Accesories:
Each prefabricated SomnoGuard® oral appliance comes with a storage box , which makes the device a practical travel companion. The delivery of the SomnoGuard® SPX also includes a special holder for the jaw trays, which facilitates the fitting process.
