What is SomnoGuard® SP Soft?SomnoGuard® SP Soft is a two-piece, prefabricated mandibular advancement device for the treatment of snoring and mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), which is associated with breathing stops at night. The advancement of the lower jaw is set in stages and with millimeter precision using two connectors that connect the upper and lower jaw trays to one another at the side.
- Inexpensive treatment option for OSA and snoring, easy to use, high level of acceptance
- Advancement of the lower jaw can be adjusted with millimeter precision from -3 to approx. 10 mm with connectors
- Secure fit and good tooth adhesion
- Mouth breathing and slight mouth opening possible
- Contains no metallic components
- Also suitable for protruding lower jaws
- Made in Germany: Developed and manufactured in Germany
How does SomnoGuard® SP Soft work?SomnoGuard® SP Soft is worn in the mouth at night. Two connectors of the same length, which laterally connect the upper and lower jaw trays, hold the lower jaw slightly forward with the tongue and open the upper airway. As a result, the vibration and fluttering of the soft tissue (soft palate & uvula) and thus the typical snoring noise can be reduced or prevented.
How is SomnoGuard® SP Soft fitted? The two jaw trays each consist of a stable outer shell and a thermoplastic filling material. The device is fitted using the so-called "boil-and-bite method". After heating the trays in a boiling water bath, the thermoplastic material softens. By biting the teeth, it forms according to the individual tooth formation - comparable to a dental impression. After subsequent cooling in cold water, the material retains the new shape with individual tooth impressions. The fitting process can be repeated if necessary (e.g. if the jaw trays do not fit optimally).
The fitting process only takes about 20 minutes:(Please also note the detailed instructions for use.)
- Heat the jaw trays in boiling water for about 3 ½ minutes.
- Bite into the soft thermoplastic material. It forms according to the teeth.
- Cool the trays in cold water so that the material hardens again.
- Adjust the advancement of the lower jaw with the side connectors.
How is the advancement of the lower jaw adjusted? The lower jaw advancement is adjusted with the aid of lateral connectors. The package includes a set of connectors (protrusion holders) of different lengths. These connect the upper and lower jaw trays to each other laterally. Depending on the length of the selected connector, the lower jaw can be shifted forward with millimeter precision from -3 to approx. 10 mm. SomnoGuard® SP Soft allows mouth breathing and a slight mouth opening. Depending on the extent of the set lower jaw advancement, the upper airways are more open. Snoring and nocturnal breathing pauses as a result of obstructive sleep apnea can be reduced in this way.
For an optimal therapeutic result, it is recommended that SomnoGuard® SP Soft is fitted and adjusted by a doctor (e.g. ENT doctor, doctor in a sleep laboratory, dentist) or their specialist staff.
Who is SomnoGuard® SP Soft suitable for?SomnoGuard® SP Soft is recommended for small to medium-sized jaws. The device is also suitable for those with a protruding lower jaw (retrognathia). If there is any uncertainty in assessing the condition of the teeth or if there are pronounced tooth or bite misalignments, a dentist should be consulted before the start of treatment.
Material:The thermoplastic filling material is medically safe and biocompatible. It contains no allergens, no latex, no silicone and no plasticizers (such as BPA).
