SomnoGuard AP 2 oral appliance
What is SomnoGuard® AP 2?
SomnoGuard® AP 2 is a two-piece, prefabricated mandibular advancement device for the treatment of snoring and mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), which is associated with breathing stops at night. SomnoGuard® AP 2 is the further development of our proven SomnoGuard® AP oral appliance. The advancement of the lower jaw is infinitely variable and adjusted with millimeter precision by turning a small stainless steel screw.- Inexpensive treatment option for OSA and snoring, easy to use, high level of acceptance
- Infinitely variable advancement of the lower jaw from 0 to approx. 10 mm with a screw
- Stable construction, secure fit and good tooth adhesion
- Lateral mobility of the mandible
- Mouth breathing possible through the gap between the upper and lower jaw tray
- Efficacy of the SomnoGuard® AP proven in studies*
- Further development of SomnoGuard® AP: less material increases comfort, less bite block, more stability, scale for better control of the lower jaw advancement
- Made in Germany: Developed and manufactured in Germany
How does SomnoGuard® AP 2 work?
SomnoGuard® AP 2 is placed in the mouth at night. By turning the small stainless steel screw located between the upper and lower jaw tray, the lower jaw with the tongue shifts slightly forward. The upper airways are opened. The vibration and fluttering of the soft tissue in the throat (soft palate and uvula), which are responsible for the snoring noise, can be reduced or prevented. How is SomnoGuard® AP 2 fitted?
The two jaw trays each consist of a stable outer shell and a thermoplastic filling material. The device is fitted using the so-called "boil-and-bite method". After heating the trays in a boiling water bath, the thermoplastic material softens. By biting the teeth, it forms according to the individual tooth formation - comparable to a dental impression. After subsequent cooling in cold water, the material retains the new shape with individual tooth impressions. The fitting process can be repeated if necessary (e.g. if the jaw trays do not fit optimally). The fitting process only takes about 20 minutes:
(Please also note the detailed instructions for use.)- Heat the jaw trays in boiling water for about 3 ½ minutes.
- Bite into the soft thermoplastic material. It forms according to the teeth.
- Cool the trays in cold water so that the material hardens again.
- Adjust the advancement of the lower jaw by turning the small stainless steel screw.
How is the advancement of the lower jaw adjusted?
The upper and lower jaw trays are connected to each other with a small stainless steel screw. The guide groove on the underside of the upper jaw trays represents the transverse guide for the screw head of the lower jaw tray. By turning the screw, the advancement of the lower jaw can be infinitely adjusted from 0 to approx. 10 mm. The advancement can be read with millimeter precision using small markings on the sides of the device. SomnoGuard® AP 2 allows mouth breathing and lateral mobility of the lower jaw.Depending on the extent of the set lower jaw advancement, the upper airways are more open. Snoring and nocturnal breathing pauses as a result of obstructive sleep apnea can be reduced in this way.
For an optimal therapeutic result, it is recommended that SomnoGuard® AP 2 is fitted and adjusted by a doctor (e.g. ENT doctor, doctor in a sleep laboratory, dentist) or a specialist staff.
Who is SomnoGuard® AP 2 suitable for?
We recommend SomnoGuard® AP 2 for neutral bite and medium to large jaws. In addition, the device is also suitable for teeth grinding due to the lateral mobility of the lower jaw. However, it is not a classic device for bruxism patients. SomnoGuard® AP 2 is only conditionally suitable for protruding lower jaws (retrognathia). If there is any uncertainty in the assessment of the condition of the teeth or if there are pronounced tooth or bite misalignments, a dentist should be consulted before the start of treatment.Material:
The thermoplastic filling material is medically safe and biocompatible. It contains no allergens, no latex, no silicone and no plasticizers (such as BPA).Accesories:
Each prefabricated SomnoGuard® mandibular advancement device comes with a storage box, which makes it a practical travel companion. For gentle care of our prefabricated oral appliances, we recommend the Curaprox "daily" cleaning gel (daily cleaning) and Curaprox "weekly" cleaning concentrate (weekly intensive care).Information on product safety:
